Last night, the Lady Colonials were taken down by the Purple Eagles of Niagara 2-1. Both teams are now in a tie for third place in the CHA, sitting at a 2-8 conference record. The loss drops Goaltender Brianne McLaughlin to 9-18-1 on the season. Freshman forward Sarah O'Malley now leads the team in points (17) with 11 goals and 6 assists on the season. If you look at the box score there are a few things that stand out, the first being that Captain Kristen Miles was scratched from the lineup. This is not the first time Coach Handrahan has scratched his Captain from the lineup this season. Miles could very well be dealing with a lingering injury or something different, that may have kept her out of the lineup as well.

The Lady Colonials seemed to be in full control of this game as well, until the third period where they were outshot 11-3. The game winning goal was decided in the third period as well by Niagara. The Colonials could not capitalize on their power play opportunities going 0-4, but letting Niagara go 1-4. The perfect opportunity came for the Colonials at the 15:38 mark when they went on the Power Play in the third period, only they could not position themselves to get any scoring chances or any shots in an attempt to tie the game.

These two teams face-off again, tonight at 7:00pm.
